Examples of fundamental research topics of interest in SusChEM include the replacement of rare, expensive, and/or toxic chemicals/materials with earth-abundant, inexpensive, and benign chemicals/materials; recycling of chemicals/materials that cannot be replaced; development of non-petroleum based sources of important raw materials; chemicals/materials for food and/or water sustainability; the elimination of waste products and enhancement in efficiencies of chemical reactions and processes; discovery of new separation science that will facilitate recycling and production of valuable chemicals/materials; and development and characterization of low cost, sustainable and scalable-manufactured materials with improved properties.
Language Resource Centers
Activities include effective dissemination efforts, whenever appropriate, and may include:
Research and dissemination of new and improved teaching methods, including educational technology;
Development and dissemination of new teaching materials;
Development, application, and dissemination of performance testing;
Training of teachers in the administration and interpretation of performance tests, the use of effective teaching strategies, and the use of new technologies;
Significant focus on the needs of those who are teaching and learning the less commonly taught languages;
Development and dissemination of materials designed to serve as a resource for foreign language teachers at the elementary school and secondary school levels; and
Operation of intensive summer language institutes.
RFA-ES-14-004: Undergraduate Research Education Program (UP) to Enhance Diversity in the Environmental Health Sciences (R25)
The goal of this NIEHS undergraduate research education R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce in the environmental health sciences. To this end, this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the development of creative educational activities with a primary focus on research experiences for undergraduates at the junior and senior level.
The Partnership for Clean Competition – Grants Program
With an emphasis on original work that focuses on improving existing analytical methods for detecting particular drugs, developing new analytical methods to test for substances not currently detectable, and discovering cost-effective approaches for testing widely abused substances across all levels of sport, the following areas of investigation reflect the PCC’s current research priorities:
– Developing methods of cost-effective testing to detect and deter the use of banned and illegal substances.
– Developing testing protocols to detect designer substances used for doping purposes.
– Improving existing analytical methods to detect particular drugs, ex. GH, IGF-1, EPO, hCG.
– Developing analytical methods to detect performance enhancing drugs not currently detectable.
– Longitudinal urinary excretion patterns, metabolism and dose-concentration.
– Critical reviews to support interpretation of laboratory data.
– Alternative specimens, (ex. oral fluid, dried blood/plasma spots) for testing.
Bringing researchers and developers together: a call for proposals | Mozilla Science Lab
Projects can be small to mid-scale – the key here is to show how we can involve the global research and development community in furthering science on the web, while testing what the right level of engagement is. Any research-oriented software development project is eligible, with special consideration given to projects that further open, collaborative, reproducible research, and reusable tools and technology for open science.
Candidate research projects should:
Have a clearly stated and specific goal to achieve or problem to solve in software.
Be directly relevant to your ongoing or shortly upcoming research.
Require code that is sharable and reusable, with preference given to open source projects.
Science team should be prepared to communicate regularly with the software team.
